Cynthia Attwood Designated Acting Chairman
Cynthia Attwood Designated Acting Chairman
On April 28, 2015, President Barack Obama designated Cynthia L. Attwood as Acting Chairman of the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission. Ms. Attwood began her service as a Commissioner in 2010, after being nominated by the President and confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
Acting Chairman Attwood Stated:
I am honored that the President has designated me to serve as Acting Chairman of the Review Commission. Having spent most of my career in the Federal Government addressing issues pertaining to occupational safety and health, serving as Acting Chairman of the Commission is truly gratifying. I accept this responsibility with the fundamental purpose of the Occupational Safety and Health Act in mind: "to assure as far as possible every working man and woman in the Nation safe and healthful working conditions and to preserve our human resources." The Commission's work—the fair adjudication of cases brought under the Act—is a critical part of that mission.
Prior to joining the Commission, Ms. Attwood served as Associate Solicitor of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health and as Associate Solicitor of Labor for Mine Safety and Health. She spent her early years in federal service in the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice.
Ms. Attwood received her J.D. degree from the University of Minnesota and her B.A. degree from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan.
