JUDGE JOHN H. SCHUMACHER JOINS REVIEW COMMISSION

Chairman W. Scott Railton recently announced that a new administrative law judge, John H. Schumacher, has joined the Federal Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission. “Judge Schumacher, with his breadth of experience, is a welcome addition to our judicial ranks,” Chairman Railton remarked.

Judge Schumacher will work out of the Washington, D.C. headquarters of the Review Commission. The Review Commission is an independent adjudicatory agency that hears and decides disputes involving allegations that job safety or health standards were violated. Created by the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, the Review Commission’s cases emanate from contested workplace inspections conducted by an agency of the U.S. Department of Labor, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

Judge Schumacher has served as a Social Security Administration Administrative Law Judge, as a Senior Trial Attorney with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, specializing in civil litigation, and as a Judge Advocate with the United States Air Force. He joined the U.S. Air Force Reserves after separating from active duty in 1999. He retired from the reserves as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2004. The judge is the author of Mumbo Jumbo, a light-hearted lampoon of the legal profession.

Judge Schumacher received his J.D. from the University of Nebraska, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix and his undergraduate degree from Columbia College in Denver, Colorado. He and his wife, the parents of two, reside in Virginia.
